Having done some recording from my Electronic Organ (EL70) ino my Tascam DP004 recorder I find the signal from the AUX out sockets on the organ are very quiet. However, if I record from the Headphone socket directly into the DP004 - the signal is strong and loud. Would the signal from the AUX out be better if it were amplified and would the ultimate result be better than what I get from the Headphone socket. If I need to go from the AUX out socket - what equipment/suggestion do I need to improve the signal strength etc. Thanks

I'm a bit shocked that the 1/4" line/mic inputs don't do the trick. Have you tried the first input switched to instrument mode?

I'm a bit of a "Newbie" at all this recording stuff but although the signal from the 1/4" line/mic input is there when I record from the AUX out socket on the organ - the signal is very weak. However when I record from the Headphone socket in the organ - the signal is strong and loud. Am I going to get a better result from amplifying the signal from the AUX out socket or shall I stay with recording from the headphone socket. There is a very slight background hiss when I record from the headphone socket and I was wondering if by recording from the AUX-OUT socket I would be able to eliminate this. Any reply would be appreciated - Thanks

Hi M King.

The guys advice so far is helpful for everyone except newbies.

The outputs on the EL-70 are designed for tape cassette or home recording equipment, and should therefore be at least 750mV, which should be fine with the inputs of your Tascam DP004. If you are getting a very low output, try turning up the speaker output volume control on your keyboard - it may also control your Aux out volume.

Here's a trick. Try plugging in headphones if the speaker is too loud - and try a pair of headphones with an in-line volume control to 'tame' the output to your ears a little. Let me know if this works. :-)

Hi bthebassman,............. thanks for your helpful reply. Since using the DP004, I have moved onto the DP008 which gives me a few more "bells & buckles" to play around with. I now find that the output volume from the AUX is considerably improved and without having to add any extra amplification, the volume is just fine. I'm not sure what I was doing wrong but everything appears sorted now & any recording I have been doing is so much better. It's only Christmas Carols but with 9 tracks already topped and tailed my family christmas present is nearly finished! Thanks again for your help and everyone's encouragement.
