How to avoid stretching?

Just can't figure this out:

1. I have some recorded music in an audio track

2. I want to add some midi. For simplicity, let's say a kick drum just with just a 4 plain beats per bar.

3. Now I want to adjust tempo until the kick drum and the audio track are in sync.

But the audio track stretches. And I want it to stay unchanged, just adjusting the midi track until the two are in sync.

How to? Can't find anything useful in Help.

Go to Insert -> Tempochange. I think there's an option to strech audio. Uncheck that box. (This is how it worked in Sonar before, if I remember correctly).

No. No checkbox there. Can only find one in Clip Properties/Groove Clips, when right clicking on the wav. But that doesn't seem to solve my problem.

I assume you already know that you should be doing this in reverse. Establish your tempo first, then record the audio to that.

Sorry, but I had to point that out. :( What you are trying to do is somewhat difficult and tedious. Also, if you didn't record the audio using a click track, the two might never sync, as your timing probably moves around throughout the song.

Hmm... strange. When I change the tempo in Sonar 3, the audio plays back like it did, but the MIDI-tracks speed up (or slow down).

Are you sure it's not only the timebars that move relative to the audio-files?

You are right. It is only the visual part that stretches, the music doesn't. So I will just have music start from bar one, and the change tempo until my midi fits.

Meanwhile, I tried Proces\Fit to Time. Tried fitting to the number of bars, instead of time. That made Sonar crash!!!

I thought so. Glad it works! :)
