So.... You are saying you want to make a band over the internet?

I'm not really sure what your question is, but I'll try to help.

If its just you and you need other members then I'd start by looking to find people with the same music interests. Go to places where people listen to music and start talking to people and spreading the word. If there are networking sites such as "craigslist.org" you can post an ad stating what you are looking for and hope for some replies. With this you may find people that are like minded and can help you with your projects. Also you may find someone that knows the computer/technical side of the music to help you along the way. Go to stores that sell musical instruments and talk to them and get their ideas on where you should turn to. Maybe they offer classes on things you are wanting to learn that will help you.

As far as computers, midi and all of that you don't have no know a lot about them. In certain instances it will help. It never hurts to have knowlege about things like that. I don't know much about computers either, but I've learned how the programs work. If a problem arises though, I have to start asking questions. MIDI I have a basic understanding, but I don't really use it in anything I do so it doesn't effect me. If you are getting into pop music you will probably use it more, so it wouldn't hurt to get a book or something to learn the basics.

If you are looking for a system to use to start recording with a computer you will want to start with one with decent processing power. You will then probably want to get an interface that will allow you to record to your computer. As a guitar player, you may want to get a Direct Box (DI) which would allow you to record your guitar into the interface with an XLR (microphone) cable. You will also want to think about what other instruments you will have to record. For pop you probably will want an interface with MIDI capabilities this way you can use a MIDI keyboard or controller.

You can get virtual instruments that will allow you to play a lot of different types of instruments from software on your computer. With this and a controller you can record multiple parts of a song. From drums, synths, guitars, etc. all of it can be made with a good virtual intrument package that works with your computer software. Then you can get a microphone and record the vocals. Essentially a full album can be made with that there. Quality will depend on how well you know what your doing, and how well the software you are working with sounds.

Hopefully that helps. If not maybe it at least gave you an idea of how to narrow down what you are asking. Feel free to contact me and I can try to help further.
