Hi there,

I am new to this forum but Ive browsed through it and it seems to offer some solid help! I have been recording my own tracks for awhile now but I new to the world of MIDI which I am slowly delving into. Right now I have song I wrote on a very basic keyboard with a drum loop. I want to use the drum loop from the keyboard (which has no MIDI output) but the keyboard parts I wanna do with my MIDI keyboard (better sound synth selection). What I was thinking of doing was recording the drum loop off the keyboard for the length of the song. Than I was going to record the MIDI keys and create a loop with this. My question was will this present a problem as the MIDI keyboard loop might slip out of time with the drum recorded live from the older keyboard? Would I be better off recording both as just a two bar loop? I have never mixed MIDI and live instruments so I am curious what others do...

I should mention that I am recording with SONAR 7 PE and I am using M-audio mobilepre USB bus and M-audio keyrig 49 for MIDI input.

Thx for any help!
Ben

If it's all the same tempo...just slide the tracks into place if they drift.

Does the keyboard with the drum loops on it show tempo? If it does then you can just input the tempo of the drum loops into your DAW. If the keyboard doesn't show tempo, you might have to tap-tempo to figure it out. Here's a pretty good tap tampo widget in case your DAW doesn't have one: Tap for Beats Per Minute BPM You just tap the beat of the song with any key on your keyboard. To be accurate, you might want to tap the tempo and reset the widget a few times, each with maybe 30-50 taps.
