Hey guys, question how much should I charge to bring in my mixer and rack euipment to record 3 days of live shows, to mix and make the cd. Basically what I would do is provide mics, a better mixer, and my interface+computer. All mixing would be done digitally, and sent to a master house. So to get the cd mastered is like 600-800 bucks. What do you guys think I should charge for this whole process? I would record on location, mix and send out the mix to get mastered. any comments I'm in new york city

I don't know what the going rate in NYC is but around here there is a place that will do one 30 minute set for one band for 200$(no master, just mixed). Now when you say 3 days, how long is a day? Also, you may want to call some other places that do live sound and get a general idea of what THEY charge so you can price accordingly.

2-3 days being about 2-3 hours a day and then choosing the best songs of those days.

when i was doing live work that required lugging the equipment, setup and recording - in NYC, my rate was $50/hour back in 1990. so a 3 hour gig typically cost the band 6 hours - 1 1/2 hours setup and teardown + the gig. so around $300. acoustic gigs where typically less - $175 average since i only had a handful of mics to set up and monitoring/foh was simple...

to do a mix of the gig (beyond a rough 2 track which was recorded right off the foh feed...) was $35/hour or $300 for 10 hours/10 songs.

today, I'd probably charge $75/hour for the gig, $50/hour mix.

note: do a check on sound company rates in your area via yellow pages or web...
