How much more for your money?

I had started a thread in the past on which mic to buy upon starting up my own studio. I came to the conclusion of purchasing a CAD M179 mic. My budget kind of limits my selection though. I was wondering what the difference between a the CAD M179 and a Behringer B1 would be. Also, how much diffenrence is a shock mount going to make?
Thanks

Depending on how well-developed your ears are . . . I would think that most people would/should find the CAD to be in a whole different league. :D

CAD M179 - $200 - 3 patterns -good sound- no shockmount - no case

Behringer B1 - $100 -cardioid only - iffy sound - shockmount - case

As far as a useful mic, the 179 is a clear winner - a mic you'll use for years. The B1 you'll replace as soon as you can afford it. I'd advise you to save a little more and get the 179 (or 177 at $160 for cardioid only.)

If your mic stand rests on a concrete floor, you don't need a shockmount. If on wood, you do.

If you want to save some bucks, make your own shockmount.
