I'm wondering how much free space I need to reserve on my hard disk in order to maximize Cubase SX 3's performance. Is it basically, the more the better? Or does it stop mattering above a certain amount of free space?

Thanks :)

I cant remember of hand but it is in the manual!

I think that the standard is to only use 80% of your total space on the drive. I just remember reading that somewhere. Something like that.

Use another HD Drive for best results.

I use a separate hard drive........with Cubase SX software on the C drive. Works very well.

Reserving extra hard drive space doesn't change the performance. If you want to increase the performance add some ram or maximize your computer for music using suggestions off this site http://musicxp.net/ . Adding another drive like choctaw suggested and using a raid array would be ideal. The devil is in the details.

I'm no expert but I do have experience with raid array. Mine was fast as lightning but, when Windows crashed, all those files spread across two 80 gig drives became vaporware - non-retrievable even by the whiz who built my computer. Two projects in progress lost with only rough mixes on cds left behind. Am I a little more careful about back-ups now - YOU BET!!!

Great link morningstar, thanks a lot for all the input guys
