Wandering How many years all of you out there have playing guitar or bass? I have played guitar for 3 years. I have only played bass twice in my life. Thanks Matt

Well i have had a guitar for 6 years, but it was too big for me when i got it, so i put it away. I picked it up a few years later, had a lesson or two, but decided that i was more into football (HUGE mistake) then about a year ago i picked it back up, and these last 6 months i haven't put it down, and i never will! I love playing the guitar, and am ashamed that i didn't take a love earlier on, as i would be alot better now! So all in all i would say 1-2 years, on and off, which is bad cos when ya put it down for so long, you can't just pick up again where you left off! :(

Anyway i aint ever gonna put it down! unless my arms or hands get broke, touch wood.

regards

aL

p.s. sorry for blabbing on!

Thirty-eight years. That doesn't speak too highly of my abilities does it? I should be a friggin' guitar genius by now. Where did I go wrong?:(

20 years guitar and bass, amateur ability on both.

Well...

24 years...

And for the last 12 years, I've done nothing else but play, write, arrange, record, for a living...

Here's a composition of mine...I'm the guitarist and sequenced all the other instruments...

Ive been playing guitar for 17 years seriously, meaning 4 years of private instruction and 1.5 to 2 years through Rich Severson, ex-GIT instructor. I only get an hour or so a day max to do everything so that means Im a little off my edge. Ive been playing drums since 1973, Jr. High Band, High school rock bands...Wheee I love to play music.

Peace,
Dennis

5-6 years. Not where I should be but meh, i guess i am alright ;)

need to get more comfortable with an electric...more of an acoustic man

Been playing for almost 30 years now.23 of at paying gigs.Self-taught. Have played everything from rock, blues, motown,r&b,country to you-name-it.Made more money playing country than anything else, although it is my least favorite stuff to play.

22 years.

Including many years of learning, five years of semi-pro playing out, a couple of years as a hired gun, and still learning. ;)

14 years. Gigged for 3. Had a baby. No more gigging for me.:)

14-15 years now. Since I was about 11.
My first guitar was a gutted electric Norma guitar with only 5 strings. I played that and a white Memphis (that had all it's strings). I taught myself for about 2 years learning mostly Van Halen and Metallica stuff. I took private lessons for about 4 years until I surpassed my teachers abilities. Then I went to college with a guitar scholarship. Studied Classical and Jazz for two years and then moved to Boston to finish my schooling at Berklee. 2 1/2 years there and then I graduated in winter 98.
Didn't really touch my guitar for a year or so after that. But came back viciously with better chops than ever.. Now I'm working on a new album with my band which should be done in Summer and it will be crazy for sure.

About 16 years, no formal training (and it often shows :) ). Had one memorable year in a thrash band doing covers of Slayer, Metallica, and the like in the Evansville area. The Ross Theater is dead, long live the Ross Theater!

Started formal lessons 40yrs ago on 24th July '62.

And I agree with Track Rat's sentiments:)

30 years for me....27 of those years on the same strat. maybe thats why the new ones don't feel right to me....kind of like im cheatin' on my woman when i play another guitar.

I have played various instruments for 44 years. Its to long of a story.

Almost 27 years now. You'd THINK I'd be phenomenal, but...

It's a hobby. Did it semi-professionally in the early 80's for a very short time. mostly, I just play because it makes me feel good. It's the best therapy one could ever ask for.
