A compendium of Homerec "All Star" responses:

Harvey Gerst:
"It depends... but the first step is to read all 70 pages of my big thread on changing lightbulbs..."

Blue Bear (where is he lately?):
"(Don't) give me a fucking broken bulb!"

Sweetnubs:
"Sweetnubs' bulbs are the sweetest of all sweet bulbs."

Alan Hyatt:
"Don't buy a bulb just yet. Studio Projects is about to come out with a new bulb that is much cheaper, yet can hang with the most expensive bulb. Of course, I am speaking here not as the president of Studio Projects, but just giving my unbiased opinion..."

Chessrock:
"I like Studio Projects. (Alan is an ass) I really do! (Alan is an ass) I am their biggest supporter! (Alan is an ass) Honestly!

Fletcher:
"I don't give a crap what bulb you buy or where you buy it. Of course, if you get from Mercenary, you will get the best customer support in the universe. We'll actually ship you three different bulbs to test, just return the two you don't want. But personally, I could give a shit where you buy it..."

Littledog:
"Change (the bulb) or die!"

Pipeline:
"LD, it's a cliché to reduce this complex issue to a cliché. To say that an untrained amateur can change a light bulb with the same efficiency as a pro engineer is both a gross oversimplification and a potentially dangerous threat to the most basic laws of physics to say nothing of the very fabric of the universe. But, hey, I'm just a little oversensitive on this issue!"

Stephen Paul: "Please don't bring up the subject of light bulbs. I invented light bulbs. All modern day lightbulbs are a variation of my designs. And I haven't seen a penny from it!

Mixerman: "Just the other day I was hired to engineer a major label session, and wouldn't you know it, a light bulb was burned out. Well, the first guy tried to screw it in counter-clockwise. Now, I would have said something, but it's not really in my job description to tell people how to screw in a lightbulb. So we did the whole session in the dark... (to be continued tomorrow. and the next day. and the next day. and the...)"

I better quit now while anyone is still on speaking terms with me!!! :D

"I better quit now while anyone is still on speaking terms with me!!! " -

Yeah? Who's still speaking to you?

BTW, from a heavy industrial standpoint -

Q. How many Union Electricians does it take to change a light bulb?

A. SEVENTEEN, YOU GOT A PROBLEM WITH THAT???

Besides, you can't screw in a light bulb, you'll either suffocate or get burned or get claustrophobia... Steve

Use the freakin' search for chrissakes. Always the same goddamn questions.

Littledog, I just spit hot coffee through my nose again thank you very much.

Littledog-Of course I've got an original Edison with the cotton filament. I bought one of those cheap Sylvanias, but it always sucked regardless of which sockets I screwed it into. Maybe mine is a dud.

Richie-Yeah, I took the bulb out of my minimag, jacked it into a line level shifter to keep it from blowing, and powered it from a Joemeek with an RNC. It flickers a little, but it was the only lightbulb I had. If I could afford a real lightbulb, I'd have a real engineer to tell me how to change the damn thing.-Richie

One, but it will take 20 small adjustments after the fact to get it just right.

<pipelineaudio> give the bands "producer"(their friend who once put the price tag stickers on the CD's at WalMart) a blown light bulb and let him work on that all day instead of messing with you while you are mixing

When I started in this business, we didn't have light bulbs, just candles.

But seriously, you might wanna look at the "light radiation patterns" in the big thread before you run out and buy any lightbulbs. If the light bulb isn't placed right, it won't put out the light you're expecting. Often, placement is more important than wattage. Move in close and you can actually reduce the wattage needed.

Also, watch for room nodes that can actually create dark places in the light pattern.

I plan to do a full test on some of the less expensive Chinese light bulbs in the near future.

Here in California it takes one person to screw in the light bulb and 3 or 4 to share the experience.

"Also, watch for room nodes that can actually create dark places in the light pattern. "

Not a problem Harvey, I hear Ethan Winer is nearly ready to release his new design for a portable "Dark Trap" - Only caveat is, they have to be shipped in heavy black plastic cases so they don't implode when exposed to direct sunlight -

Also heard that Version 2 will have a small clear window that can be covered after installation, making for safer transportation and handling... Steve

Why waste your time on lightbulbs anyway? Aren't there some new candles that are really cheap and have interchangeable wicks that make them look like any lightbulb you want?

I'm surprised no one has brought up those new digital lightbulb modelers...

(gotta admit... there's a lot of very funny folks hangin' out here...)

A digital or an analog bulb? If a digital, what bitdepth do you need at a 50/60Hz sample rate?

Hey, foo is a professional light bulb changer, and foo gotta tell you that foo is getting really pissed off at all these amateur HomeLightbulb Changers passing themselves off as professionals.

Not to mention that they're really cutting into foo's light bulb changing business.

. . . and what do they know about anything. They probably worked at lamps-r-us as a receiving clerk when foo was flying back and forth to LA studying light bulb changing at LIT (Light bulb Institute of Technology).

. . . and foo has no competition when it comes to cooking turkeys using light. Yeah, they don't teach you that at Taco Bell, now do they Track Rat?

a couple of additions to the lightbulb compendium (see earlier post...)

from Sennheiser:
"Whenever i change a lightbulb, I always replace it with a 441 watt bulb, regardless of the application. It's the only wattage I ever have in the house, as they are just the best bulbs, and so there is no reason to buy any other kind. Last month the bulb burned out in my nightlight. It wasn't easy putting a 441 watt bulb in that little socket, but I built an adapter. Yawn... I don't know why I'm so tired lately!"

from miketholen:
"Whatever you do, don't replace your bulbs with Manley bulbs. You're better off sitting in the dark!"

Ozraves: "I just did a review on lightbulbs at www.piemusic.com."

Dot: "Funny, so did I!"

Lightbulb marketing literature: "Our bulbs emit a subtle color of light that is both bright yet dark at the same time."

Hey I am new to this whole light bulb thing.

Should I buy a Behringer light bulb? They put out decent light and are so much cheaper. I mean so what if some people dont like them. I just like to have my own light and its for no one else. Its not like I a major studio and selling it by the hour or anything.

Is a toob light better? I hear they are supposed to be better and brighter. Those other lights are cheaper and light just as good but I was just wondering? I have heard they are warmer.
