I am not and was asking because ur are the ones whose replies i will be looking for and posts to help me grow as producer and engineer

Thanks

I don't think you need to worry about it - there are a lot of knowledgeable contributers here who are happy to help you - both Pro and Amateur....

All "being pro" means is that you get paid for it - why would you automatically "not listen" to non-pros?

An elitist attitude is not going to get you far on this site, but a more open one will open up a huge mountain of info for you.......

Cheers,
Bruce

Ok then let me add to it, how many of you are getting paid enough to make a good living off of it? (Just curious)

I don't see an attitude there at all (and I seriously doubt that he meant that he "wasn't" going to listen to the non-pros), I know that there are a lot of knowledgeable "non-pros" here, but if someone is good enough to be making a living off their enginearing skills, then I would want to seek that person out too.

Ok... put it this way....

NewGuy posts a question: "what's a good compressor on a budget..."

JoeAmateur says "the RNC is an excellent choice..."

JohnPro says "the RNC is an excellent choice..."

Which answer is more correct? JohnPro's because he gets paid for it?

My point is - if you hang around this site long enough, it becomes very clear who knows their stuff, and it has nothing to do with being novice, amateur, or pro.

i didn't mean to offend anyone geez, like tekker said before i'm still gonna see all of u guys post and ur intelligence on matters will show, i just figured that someone who made a living off this would have greater experience and more hungry to get knowledge on this subject so he would learn...if i made more then just my mp3 money i would prolly be knee deep in books and info but since i don't other things that have to be shared wit the music priority

BTW check my MP3 pages :D

SIC, this site has dope hip hop tracks

Beat Makers, for dope hip hop instrumental

All done using cake as seq and audio recorder VIVE La Marche Gateau(Cakewalk in french heh)

I'm not offended, nor am I trying to bust your chops! I just wanted to point out that there is a lot of great info to be had here, by a whole variety of people from amateur to pro.

Cheers!

Bravo, Bruce, excellent responses.

I love this forum do to the wide range of people here, from folks who come in for 3 days and start to pick stupid fights to the heavies like Bruce, Sonusman and all the others who really know their shit.

For me personally,a pro violin player but an inexperienced recordist, I have learned much from everybody around here, and man do I got a lot to learn. I will take advice from everyone, and
maybe someday I will have questions that only the pro engineer's can answer, but I think the guy's like Bruce are hanging in here because they can give advice to any level of recordist, and they respect the fact that everyone here is striving for the same goal: having fun and making music.

 , I don't know Teacher???

The way you worded your original post in this thread made it seem as if the only people you wanted to take advice from were quote/unquote "professionals".

It would seem to me, IMHO, that as long as you received viable information from any source you should feel/be thankful that you received it. :)

I hope that the rest of your posts will get answered by anybody..., "professional" or not.

To answer the original question, I am most definately NOT a pro. I'm not sure how typical this makes me. I prefer to think of myself as a "Gentlemen hobbiest songwriter/recording dude". Maybe without the gentlemen part.... I worked briefly in a recording studio / music store back in the 80's and have been going downhill ever since.

My sole claim to fame was producing a recording by a band of 12-year old punks called the Hexnuts. "Smurf's Gotta Burn" was the obvious single. Got some local radio play (like twice). In a just world, it should have been huge.

Since then I have been slowly building my basement studio and have actually achieved some level of satisfaction with it. Most of what I have learned prior to finding this web site has been from that famous textbook "the seat of my ass". I come into this site so I can leach real knowlage from "the pros" and because for some sick reason I find this stuff very interesting. I also check out the computer threads because I actually have some useful computer knowlage (thank god I can get paid for something).

Exactly my point....... (the not answering part!!)

i guess its true what they say most "professional" studios use Cubase or Pro Tools? should i make a transistion?

RE: Bruce not being Pro....

... Yeah, With his mickey mouse mackie 8 bus console and 3 adat xt's and plethora of other gear... he's just a newbie to recording......*sarcastic*

Obviously Teacher doesn't know a fucking thing about recording.

He starts a thread, we all take time to answer it, and he turns out to be a goof

Post your SPAM and Sillyness elsewhere, if your not going to be serious.....

Oops, I forgot to add something....

Teacher.........

FUCK OFF!

Voxvendor ur an IDIOT...go check my mp3 sites and SEE how "little" i know about recording...fool...my last protools and cubase statement was SARCASM moron....cuz I know professionals use Cakewalk cuz when i went to the Studio i needed cakewalk to play the sequences for my ASR-X and they had it though it wasn't on the Main studio computer they had it(Pro tools was on it)

Can i hear some of ur projects? not so i can be a d*ck but maybe u can teach me something i came in hear open minded to try and learn as much as i can then i got an idiot like u doing idiotic things
