I use four mics: 2 Oktava MK012s, a 57, and a Beta 52. What about you guys?

If I had a kit, Id do it similar.....Marshall MXL603's overhead,sm57 on snare, and at ATMpro25 on kick with a Marshall MXLv67 out in front of the kick, maybe in a tunnel....i like a boomy kick you in the friggin chest with a combat boot kinda sound.......

Either an AKG C-1000 or an SM-57 on top of a snare, a C-1000 on rack toms, a C-3000 on the floor tom, AKG D-112 in the kick, a GT AM-52 in figure 8 out about 3" in front of the kick and either AT-4033's, Octava MC-012's, Nuemann KM-184's or Earythworks SR-71's as overheads.

Matched MC012's overhead, D112 on kick, SM7 on floor tom, C414B-ULS on rack toms, SM57 on snare- 6 channels.-Richie

2 AKG 451B - overheads
1 SM57 - snare
1 D112 or D12 - kick
3 SM57s - toms
1 AT 4041 - hi-hat (sometimes)
1 misc - room mic

Anywhere from 4 to 9, depending on the context....

I use a Red 5 Audio RVK7 drum mic kit. That's two overheads, snare, three toms and one outside the front skin of the bass. I also have a cheapish old tannoy mic that I place just above the beaters on the bass drum, I call this my click mic.

The Red 5 Audios are cheap as chips but perform superbly imho...

Dave.

Overheads:
normally use a pair of Rode NT3s - sometimes I'll pull out a pair of Behringer ECM8000s
snare - sm57
kick - beta52

also somtimes use an ecm8000 as a room mic (when using rodes as OHs)

My Setup

Beta 52 on Kick
SP B-3 in fig 8 mode 12" off shell
2 Cad E-100 8"-10" off ground one near kick and rack Toms, one near 2 floor toms.
If I ever need more maybe my 2 MC012s overhead

sennheiser 602 on bass drum
sm57 on snare
sennheiser 604 on toms size 13" and up
ATpro25 on toms 14" and down
oktava mc012 on overheads.
i have (4) AT4033r for specialty cymbal micing (ride, hihat, etc)

sennheiser835-snare
sennheiser835-in bass drum
mxl 603s-overhead
mxlv67-hihat

but i suck at eq-ing them

sennheiser 602 - bass drum
sm57 - snare
octavia mk012 - overheads
ev mc100 - rack toms... waiting for the cash to get 3 E604's
behshiter ecm8000 - outside room mic

hey track...

Do you got a mp3 of a c-1000 on snare? i would like hear that. Im looking for something that sounds better than 57, thou i finally got a postion that i favor(im almost afraid to move it of the snare)
I cant get a good sound w/a 57 on 13" piccolo, so im back on my tama 13x6" wood snare.
Its all about placement and tuning! what a pain in the ass. but a 57 sounds sweet on the shell 1 inch to the side of the sound hole.

If you hit the WWW button at the bottom of my post it'll take you to my NoWhereRadio thingie. There's a work in progress named Victim that's miked with the above mentioned mics. I'll see if I can dig up another kit miked the same way later too.

SNARE : Beyer M422
KICK - Inside : Atm Pro25
KICK- Outside : Akg D112
Overheads : a pair of Marshall/MXL 603's placed "diagonally" across the kit.

We tried a new arrangement this last weekend for a heavy set.
SM7 on snare, Studio Projects C-4's X-Y overhead (bass cut engaged to decrease bleed from a monster floor tom), Studio Projects B-1 on high toms, C414B-ULS with a 20dB pad on the floor tom from hell, D112 on kick. Not bad for "the big sound".-Richie

PS- We did one track which is almost entirely high hat, with a little snare and kick, entirely with a pair of Oktava MC012's overhead, the whole kit, and it worked rather well for that cut.-Richie

CAD NDM11 on Kick
Shure SM 57's on Snare & Toms (5 or 6 mics based on # of toms)
Shure KSM32'2 for overheads (2)
Marshall MXL67's for room ambiance (sometimes)

or

CAD NDM11 on Kick
Shure SM57 on Snare
(2) Shure KSM32's for overhead

Anywhere from 4 - 11 mics (depending of the project/need)

Can you list your soundcard and mixer please? I'm upgrading during the summer...
