What's interesting is the implication that "you can only play one guitar at a time."

Well yeah, but that's a little bit simplistic. What if you're playing a Les Paul and you need the tone of a Tele? Or for that matter a P Bass? Or a 12-string acoustic?

A wise man once said "You can't have too many guitars." OK, that's probably an oversimplification also. But particularly in a recording environment, it's nice to have choices. Thumbnail estimate, I'd say half a dozen strategically chosen guitars is good starting point for a well-equipped studio.

Here my stringed toys:

Chevy Telecaster (sunburst / maple neck / lefty)
Chevy Stratocaster (stripped-off paint / rosewood neck / lefty model)
Cheri Stratocaster (black / rosewood / righthanded model / for sale)
Cheri Stratocaster (black /maple / righty model)
Cheri Stratocaster (creamish white with metallic shine / rosewood / righty)

(Can you tell I like these early '90s Korean copies? They are very well-built and sound stratter than strat. Except for the tele ofcourse ;-)) And cheap as hell!
You noticed I'm a lefty that plays some guitars upside down - strings reversed though - low E on topside)

Ok, we continue:
Custom built Telecaster #1 (Floyd / humbuckers / lefty)
Custom built Telecaster #2 (Tele outline with strat-alike scratchplate & pickups / lefty)
Epiphone Casino (1993 / righty)
Aria SG (1970's / righty)
Hondo Les Paul double cutaway (1970's / righty)
Höfner bass model 185 (1962 / righty /for sale)
Jackson Dinky (1992 / lefty)
Challenge bass (1993 / lefty)
Framus Texan 12-string (1968 / righty)
Yamaha APX10L (1990's / lefty)
Spanish acoustic (1950's / righty)
and finally another spanish acoustic (junk) and a "Suzuki Explorer" (more junk)

Just sold an 1970's Ibanez Concord 12-string and an 1996 Ibanez AW150 acoustic.

So that's 18 in total. Jeeezzzzzzzzz......

My ultimate dream guitar is a lefty Gretsch White Falcon with Bigsby vibrato... One day, you know.....

I usually have somewhere between 2 and 4 guitars, with the occasional 5th. I'm currently trying to cut down to ONE guitar, my "keeper", and then get a few more keepers, hopefully an SG with a vibrola and maybe a strat clone.

I LOVE Danelectro guitars!

Everybody should have one or two.

I got the Hodad new for $150 and play it all the time.

I got the DC12 for $200 with a hardshell case! and it plays like a dream :D
I'm still feeling guilty for getting rid of a U2 I used to own. :(

Okay I now have more guitars than I intended to. Some by acquisition and some by sheer luck and generosity.

The list is now:
Fender Strat 57 RI
Fender Strat (standard usa - now going to be my guinea pig guitar)
Fender P bass
Epi LP Goth
ESP/LTD EX-400
Jackson Dinky DK2
Yamaha 12 string (an excellent gift I must say)
and a cheap Fender 6 string acoustic.

As crude as it sounds I wanna sell the Jackson, the epi and the EX-400 off.

Then maybe I'll get a Gibson LP for balance away from the strats. But that'll still give me 6 axes which is plenty even though they are all varied.

I would have 4 but my friend borrowed one and took of across the country to and sold it to get some cash. I'm still his friend too which is kinda dumb I guess. But I still have two electrics and an acoustic.
