Well yeah, but that's a little bit simplistic. What if you're playing a Les Paul and you need the tone of a Tele? Or for that matter a P Bass? Or a 12-string acoustic?
A wise man once said "You can't have too many guitars." OK, that's probably an oversimplification also. But particularly in a recording environment, it's nice to have choices. Thumbnail estimate, I'd say half a dozen strategically chosen guitars is good starting point for a well-equipped studio.
