True or not: every digital device that processes data through time needs clock.

If so: how many clocks are involved in a computer? I've got a clock on my soundcard, which can be set as master or slave. Are there other clocks in a computer? The mobo, for example? What about the modem? And can you set them as master/slave?

True. (unless your counting to ten on your fingers)

As far as clocks in a computer... there are many. Their everywhere. But if your talking about the motherboard components and functions in relation to the recorded result.. that gets very blurry. It would be very obvious if there were problems at that stage in the game. In otherwords, don't worry about trying to optimize your motherboard for audio recording.

Many layers in this stuff.

Same deal in digital audio though. It's all about synchronization, and that's the clocks job.

Your job is to hit the record button and play, in time. Screw the clocks. It scares me when people get to hung up on the technical side. Does anyone record anymore?

I know you do Dobro.. :) And where is my copy?, how much??

LOL Sorry Em - the clock just happens to be one of the most essential elements of good digital sound.
While it is true about the clocks in your computer, the audio clock is different. I've posted a lot about this recently, look it up if you're interested.

The concepts are all the same, the technical basis is all the same. Audio or someone turning on their microwave oven... it's all the same. I'm not doubting that a good pulse/sync would do wonders for audio(digital). I was advocating doing something instead of thinking.

Believe it, or not.

I would be interested in this 'audio clock'.. must be some cutting edge chip.

you can get details on clocks from aarvark and lucidaudio websites
