I have realized that my rythm-(acoustic)guitar playing is often the same for each song -> boring! has anyone an idea how to make it fresher (books, sites, ...)?

What exactly is it you are doing for each song?

Try listening to different styles of music like jazz or something and pull ideas from their rhythm section. You could also try playing a simple riff as a background.

do you use a pick? if so try without it. add some bass notes(with the thumb) that are 'away' from the highs(with the other fingers). there are alot of fingerstyle players in bands and it does NOT sound to busy (when done properly)
that is my 2 cents worth anyway....Peter miller

The rhythm has to fit the music, so it's an impossible question to answer without hearing it. If it's boring, is it that way because of the sound of the git itself, or the music? Maybe an arrangement issue, tone?... who knows. Post a sample of it.

Sounds like you're in a rut. Listen to something different and figure out what the rhythm is doing to form the foundation for the rest of it. Gypsy jazz - Django Reinhardt, The Hot Club of France, Stephane Grappelli and so forth - will be heavily rhythm dependent. Hot bluegrass is the same. Look for Mark O'Connor, Tony Rice or Steve Kaufman. If you want to cross pollinate the styles, do a search on David Grisman. These are all blistering lead players, but each of them will rely on rock solid rhythm to make it work. Grisman in particular is a rhythm genius.

The other thing is to get and use a metronome during practice. What I was sure had to be my own style of brilliance in my rhythm playing turned out to be a pretty poor treatment of the beat. A metronome is cruel, but you'll end up being a better player for it.

Let some of the Greats rub off on ya:Paul Simon,Pete Townshend,John Lennon,Bob Dylan(early stuff especially).
