How important is subject matter in songs ?

I never said that at all. Don't make things up or put words in my mouth. That's another sure sign that you're out of bullets.

I've been saying that since day one. Anyone can write a song. If you, as the author, feels satisfied with whatever you've written, if you feel it's an honest and true representation of your idea, then it's a good song.

Selling out means that you've changed your ways to achieve financial success. I have not done that. So you're wrong again.

Anybody can write a song, not anybody can write a good song. anybody can sing in the shower, not anybody can sing well in the shower.
Anybody can play baseball, not anybody can play it well, anybody can do algebra, not anybody can do well at it.

The whole point is "do you want to improve" if you dont, shut up and let somebody else improve if they want to.

If it's about being satisfied with your songs, why bother showing them to people, why bother making a cd and trying to get recognition?

No selling out is entering the machine and going along with it. Your songs are pop songs with bad singing and a punk rock arrangement, do you think you are the only has ever done that?

He does, he writes verse verse chorus, like every commercial song out there has, and then he doesnt follow rules!

Dragonworks is back, he was done with me, now he's back

Yes, you win, from now on I will submit all my songs to you for editing before final draft, how much do you charge?

Sounds like a GREAT idea. I would NOt record the lyric you presented before, i mean if the music was great, and the melody it might be different, but as of now, id throw that one in the trash. Dont feel bad, I throw half of my stuff in the trash

Yes they can. Writing a song is a personal art form. You are not equipped to tell someone that their song is good or bad. You can like it or dislike it, but you can't judge if it's actually good or bad because someone else might disagree with you. Who's right? You? Because you say so? Um no.

Those aren't bad examples, but there are holes in them. A baseball player can actually practice physical techniques that can make him better. Practice is not as good as pure raw talent though. A singer can also practice physical techniques to improve. Not as good as a natural though. Algebra can be taught to monkeys. Songwriting is something inside a person that is intangible. You and others might be okay with allowing an outsider to come in and tinker with you. I'm not, and I'll discourage anyone from allowing it.

I'm fine with that, but the improver has to better than the improvee. You're not qualified. You've shown no reason to be taken seriously.

For me, I make them for my own enjoyment and my sales go to charities. That's it.

No, and I won't be the last. It's funny how you go back forth praising me and bashing me. You're so hollow. You're really just swinging at air. Lol. As I've said many times - I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel. I'm fucking awesome at what I do and I love doing it. Why that upsets you is beyond me, but it is amusing.

I can judge if the writer knows his craft. I can judge if the song is polished or with most people, if it's raw. I can be impressed by a song or a songwriter, even if they lack polish and experience. I recently saw a girl she was probably only 18 or so, nice girl, didnt bad mouth me, I was really impressed by her writing, she already had a style, she was writing stuff that was better than anything I could have written at 18, she lacked fine tuning, I helped her clean up some of the excess and get to the point of her song. She put out an EP, and working hard to become a pro, Thats satisfying for me, and she was good enough to know she wasnt great, yet.

But I would not be surprised if she makes it, she has plenty of time to do it.

Yes, everybody has potential to improve whatever skill they have. Songwriting has as many learnable skills as singing does. As I have said, anybody who writes a verse/chorus, knows something, and they learned it from music they listen to. Nobody has one teacher, they have many, I could learn from your songs too, mostly how NOT to write LOLLLLLL

Which is why you have reviews, which are as valid as something YOU might review.

I said, I think your stuff is ok, the recordings are really good, without them, youd sound bad. But you do show some learn skill, you didnt dream up punk music, you copied your heros. But theres more to songwriting than Punk Rock

You "helped" someone that was willing to accept it. Good for you. That's great for both of you. Did you beat her down and force your way in like you do in here, or did she ask?

You're contradicting yourself again. I sense a pattern here.....

I don't ever ask for songwriting reviews, or at least haven't in a very long time. You went out and grabbed one of my songs without my asking to try to make some example of me. I'm sorry that didn't work out for you. You can't reach me. I post my songs in here for mix comments, sure. I'm open to mix comments. This is a home recording site. I don't consider any songwriting or arrangement opinions though. People sometimes give them anyway, and I most often try to respectfully decline them.

Now you're contradicting yourself again and adding in a touch of not making any sense. You seem to think that I'm trying to put everything into a "punk box". I'm not. I feel the same about anyone writing in any genre.

You make accusations, and never substantiate them. If you recall, I gave an opinion on likes/dislikes, good/bad, and you and the people who believe you attacked me. ive been standing up for right ever since. I never beat you over the head, that has probably done a hundred times, as evidence would indicate. You can do what you want to do, but dont argue the truth.

Are you bi-polar or something? You live in a fantasy world.

The truth is the the truth, 1+1=2

While I agree with that, you're nowhere near truth. You're all over the map, man. Take a step back and re-group. I'll still talk with you, but let's cut the nonsense and get back to basics.

1+1=2 is true only in the abstract, in the real world that is never so.

give me one example where 1+1 is 2 in the real world.

1 beer + 1 beer = 2 beers?????

Perhaps my thought process is not deep enough to comprehend the esoteric nature of this argument - but arguing that one plus one does not equal two seems to be such a waste of time and effort. Certainly you folks can hi-jack this or any other thread for your personal spats - but why turn what in theory could be a positive, cooperative, informative web site into an endless bitch fight.

I try very hard to make all my posts positive and hopefully helpful - and I know I will regret I even bothered to compromise my personal intergity to post this reply - but My God you people need to take a break and count to 10 (in the abstract that would be 5+5)

The only thing worse than a multi-page internet fight is some peanut gallery shmoe coming in with his "integrity" and telling us how bad we are. :laughings:
