i'm in the market for either another 4033 or something similar like a NT1000.

how does the NT1000 stack up to a 4033?

I own both mikes. Unfortunately, I've only had my NT1000 for a couple of weeks and I was on vacation for one of those weeks. I have used it in a few recordings and I am very impressed so far. I haven't used it for vocals yet because I'm not a singer. It sounds every bit as good as my 4033 on acoustic steel-string and nylon string guitars, shaker, and tambourine. That's all I've used it for, and it was excellent on all those sources.

They both sound bright to me, but the 4033 seems to have a little bit bigger proximity effect and bass response. The NT1000 is really solid and heavy, and it requires a good stand. I was amazed when I took it out of the box how good the build quality seems. It's a beautiful looking mic. I can already say that for tambourine, which is a tough instrument to record well, I will reach for the NT1000 next time.....it sounded very natural. For clean electric guitar I love the 4033, although I usually record with amp simulations. On acoustic guitars I will have to spend more time with both mikes. My recordings show them to be very good for that application and allow my guitars to shine. I've owned my 4033 for 1.5 years so I know what it's going to sound like and exactly where to place it.

Tough decision. I don't think you could go wrong with either mic. Sorry I can't tell you which I like better for vocals. If you buy the NT1000, the best price I found was at www.bpmmusic.com $259 for the mic, $39 for the shockmount, and free shipping.

I'm pretty sure Ty Ford has both mics reviewed on his website, and I know for sure he has the NT1000 and NTK reviewd there...

The new Electronic Musician magazine awarded the NTK the mic of the year under $1000, for whatever that's worth. I also read a horrible review in a UK magazine recently that hated the NTK and said all negative things about it......I can't remember the name of the magazine.

The BLUE Kiwi mic was the over $1000 winner. That's three years in a row that BLUE microphones have been awarded in Electronic Musician. They must be a big advertiser.

LOL@Wide Awake,

thats about how it usually goes...but those Blue mics actually sound very good...i wouldnt pay that much for them....

they do win the Gidge Magazine award for creative mic names....

no sonixx,

stick with the nt1000. You save money and get better value, because the ntk is too unreal on top.
