I've never had to use this plugin but I think I'm going to need to for upcoming sessions. How do I use this program? I want to use it to clean up a medicore vocal track without overdoing it. If it helps any, this band plays in an E flat tuning.

Thanks for your help!

Autotune 3 is good if not overused. The best advice I can give is to turn down the tracking and response time so that it sounds more natural, and don't use it to fix vocals that should be re-tracked. Best use is for tightening harmonies, not for making a lead vocal perfect. If the vocal is within a few cents, it can pull it in very naturally. If it's a crap take, then it'll just be polished crap with artifacts.

A much better program is made by Celemony. It is called the Melodyne. It can transform audio into midi, and then you can move it anyway you want. They have a demo on their site. It is awesome.

use the manual function.

nothing auto about 3 is very useful.

Hard to believe you would shell out $300 for a plug-in and then get no manual or instructions on it's use.

ok, I would like to retract that last comment, i've had a bad day.

Yes, but I dig what you were implying.
Further and above the anti-piracy stance, which I applaud you for - why is it that so many people won't crack open manuals before coming here to ask questions?

It's too much work.

How many people buy mixers and then come on here and ask how to plug everything in. It's a big diagram on the second page of the manual, for crying out loud!

Loneliness?

It's worst than that, there've been a number of people coming here lately having bought (stole/pirated/whatever) a shitload of gear and s/w that they have absolutely NO CLUE what it's for or even how it's used!

Because most people are lazy and would rather have other people do their work for them.

I know that sounds awful and jaded and all that, but I don't think it's very untruthful...unfortunately.

Which is why some, when told that boosting their mixdowns past clipping isn't "mastering", and that good mastering takes more than pushing one button, they immeditaely think it would be better if they let someone else master for them. God forbid they should actually have to learn anything or do anything.

Thanks for the replies, although some of them were condescending.

big difference with autotune 3 and autotune 4. I use version 4 a lot and find it very effective. First you select kind of voice (bass tenor alto or soprano), then use the key (E flat for your needs), and hear if you like it. What I do too, is play with scales, if it is typically a major, minor aor any other scale, then the result will be fine.

I also split the vocal track, using one part of the vocal that needs to be autotuned on 1 track and the rest that is fine on another track and apply the effect where needed. (autotune always in real time, it is always nice to have the original vocals if your signer becomes a star ;o)

you can also play with attack and release, it takes time to get a godd blend.

Or.... you can tell the singer to sing the fucking song properly and do it over!!! :p

You're welcome.

You gotta admit, it was pretty funny :)

You should figure out the key of the song, just because they tune to Eb doesn't mean the song is played in Eb. Find the word or words that are a little off, go into manual mode and slide them into key. It will show you the scale (that you selected) so you can just move the note up or down. If you are doing it to more than a word here and there, it will sound like crap when it's done. If the delivery was weak, it will still be weak, just in key.

I so love this site :) everyone is always in a great mood. The poor guy just said that "in the future" he may want to "buy" (ok buy is assumed) the plugin. Why would he have a manual for it if he didnt buy the software yet? why does the conversation turn to pirates and idiots with mixers? how is that at all relevant to his question about if he should buy the plugin?

FattMusiek, I can tell ya from what I have been told Antares makes good plugins. However I dont know anything about this one sorry. But really sorry about all the implications that your an idiot that doesnt read manuals, or that you have stolen the software. I read your post and didnt get that out of it at all.
