You'll get all kinds of help but you might want to not cross post all over the forum.

sorry bud im just looking for all types of information at the min about different things.

Maybe find a local studio that you can visit and take the tour and ask some questions? I dont know how they would feel if they know they are helping out future competition but you could give it a try. I know a few guys in my area who are a wealth of info who would have no problem with that.

If you want to be an entrepeneaur you better pick a better business than audio recording.

No shit.

Unless you have a mighty big bankroll and/or enjoy loosing money.

I like music. What can I do?

Hey Simon,

sound -> microphones -> mixing board -> recording medium (tape, hard drive) -> CD, tape....voila!

Seriously, the guys here answered you so glibly because you asked a fairly broad question.

I didn't listen to your tunes because I didn't feel like becoming a member but, considering you asked this question, I'm guessing you haven't thought this through too much. Hopefully, I can help you focus your intentions towards a more appropriate course of action.

First off, there are far more specific questions to ask yourself and us than "how to set up a studio."

The first that come to mind are...

What do you want to do?
Do you want to build a home studio as this bbs' name suggests or a commercial facility to make money as an owner?
Do you want to learn the arts of the studio to record yourself or learn enough to be comfortable there as an artist?
Do you want to learn to produce, engineer?
Do you want to understand how the different components of a studio work or simply start a checklist of what you need to buy?

Dragon made a good suggestion about trying to get a walkthrough at a pro facility to see *how it's done* but I know I wouldn't have been comfortable walking in and with no prior knowledge so some due dilligence is probably in order. This is the best place I know to do that research so you're in luck!

Knightfly also pointed you towards a great resource as far as reading material. If you're ready to absorb all that's there, great. If not, you ask questions here. that's what we all do. If you feel like answering my questions directly, I'll tell you where I would go with your answers.

Good luck and keep on hipping and hopping....:)

and no, my angel post will not be followed by a god bless...

what simon said

hey simon,

Just looked over at the cubase forum. you said some not so good things to the more knowledgable members of the board.

I think it sounds like you need to learn about the rules of using your resources. Honey/Vinegar paradigm.

I have a talented musician friend who was offered a greatly reduced hourly studio rate because he was a friend of an engineer. Well, they ended up arguing because the musician didn't want any "favors" and blew the advantage his talent had afforded him.

Lesson: don't be that dude. Instead of asking how you steal something people have paid to develop and buy, why not ask about pro-level budget sensitive alternatives. They do exist! I started on cool edit 2000 for fifty dollars american and a great many people talk about N-track as a good starter. There's a learning curve for these packages anyway. Alright. tired of wasting my breath.

good luck...

Good advice, Stonepiano. There's no substitute for starting at the bottom and learning your way up. It gives you a depth of knowledge that is difficult to share with someone who comes along and asks broad questions!

You can make a small fortune in the recording biz....Out of a large fortune.
