I've always heard it pronounced DAW as a word. For a long time, I wasn't certain what a DAW was. By the time I realized it was an acronym, I was already settled on the pronunciation.

On a somewhat-related note, Pennsylvania has the ONLY two-letter state abbreviation that people use in common language referring to the state.

Example: nobody says EMM-DEE for Maryland, but nearly everyone says PEE-AYY when talking about the state just to the North.

I pronounce it "daw", just like it's spelled. Don't let the capital letters trip you up. :D

I pronounce it 'duh', just like those who haven't realized that 'not using' Google is synonymous for 'example of poor education' or 'poor parenting' or 'I am just not able to aks a question'. lol! :)

I do tend to pronounce it as if it were a word. Of course, I also call a small river a creek. 'Crick' actually. Where am I from anyway?

I say Dee-eh-double u. "DAW" makes me think of Bill Cobsy "DAWwww..."

Puddin!! :)

Seriously? WTF does it take to rep you kid? I spread like 'Stifflers' mom!

I'm just going to rep random people at this point. I don't get this whole spread shizzle at all....

I call it POS mostly...all these DAhWs eat too much computer and too much money.

Over here...

In laid back East TN we slow things down just a bit. DAW is pronounced with several A's if pronounced at all. Daaaaawwuuuu would work. We also turn those knobs over yonder jest a litl bit.

Saaaaaweeeet!

Awesome thread!!! :thumbs up:

I go for "DAW", precisely as in D'AW(esome).

But I'm portuguese, so what do I know?! :D

Well I believe I've heard english people pronounce idea "idea-ER" a lot. DAW as a word and idea sorta rhyme so maybe it's an english linguistic thing.

The "R" sound at the end of some words with no "R" in them is usually transitional - a sound placed between two words that would otherwise be awkward to pronounce together, especially in British and similar language. If the person were simply saying the word, they usually wouldn't add an "R". It's kind of like putting "an" in front of nouns that start with vowel sounds.

I'm still trying to work out why we say "double u double u double u" when spelling out URLs, as it is 9 syllables, rather than "world wide web", which is three... but "www" is the abbreviation? Epic fail!:laughings:
:D True.

And besides that, why is "abbreviation" such a long word?

This made me laugh. I hate the time people spend pronouncing out WWW. It's pointless. You don't even have to type it on website addresses anymore. Why say it??

and why isn't it double V anyway?
One of the few things the French got right. ;)
