Are you able to master (compression, etc.) files with Cubase SE? I havent been able to figure it out.

Yes you can. Just import the files, do what you want to them and mix it down.

I can't get my SE to mixdown. It keeps saying error. Does write or read have anything to do with mixing down?

Did you set the left and right markers? Did you read the manual? Do you have a manual?

I have set the markers. I have manual and am following the steps. It's probably something SO trivial I'll feel like an even bigger idiot than now.

What type of file are you trying to mix down to? You should set it up for stereo interleaved at 16 bit 44.1k.

As far as I know, it deals with putting some compression or limiters on the overall left and right channels and then exporting that to whatever stereo file you desire to CD. preferrably a high quality that you can send to get duplicated or to use as a demo or recording.Recording Noob said:How does mixing down master the audio file??

If you're wanting to master then you presumably already have a stereo mixdown?
Start a new project, select stereo mastering setup, import track.
Use comp. etc. in vst channel settings for that stereo track.

The harsh reality here is that if you don't understand how to mixdown, then you really should not be mastering. Get good at the basics before attempting the complicated stuff
