How would I go about making seperate mixes during tracking? Say, The drummer wants less drums, more guitar, more bass. The vocalist wants less drums, less bass, more guitar etc... Or recording four musos at once and each one wants a seperate mix in some way or another.

I use a Firepod out to a Samson S Phone (via CueMix) currently for headphone monitoring. Would I output each channel from the FirePod to a mixer and then send the required levels of each track to the subgroups? If that would work, I would still be only be able to send one stereo mix back to the S Phone though, not the four that would be required... Do I need a different headphone amp that supports four seperate stereo mixes? Am I totally off base here?

Thanks for any help on this.

what software do you use....if you have cakewalk you can make the subgroups right in the program and send them through different outputs....actually any decent software should have this but the only one im familiar with is cakewalk

You'd need a sound card with multiple outputs to drive multiple headphone amps. Most software allows you to make the seperate mixes via AUX sends. You'd assign these software AUX sends to your hardware soundcard outputs and these would patch to your headphone amps.

Or, conversely, you could tell them to suck it up and deal with it :) a little extra bass/drums/whatever in the headphone monitor never hurt anyone..
