How do you get this Sound???

My favorite artist is singer/songwriter Howie Day... I am trying to record a vocal track that sounds similar to him on the track "Sorry So Sorry". My voice kinda favors his, but when I record, I can't generate that same sound.

I have a Digi001. PLEASE listen to the opening verse of the mp3 "Sorry So Sorry." What kinds of EQ, EFFECTS, OR COMPRESSION are they using to get this type of sound???

sorry this is the best clip i could find.....im afraid this clip doesn't exactly show what I'm talking about but I'd still love the feedback...its the first vocal part u hear, before the echoy chorus ("I'm Sorry, So Sorry")... how can I get that sound??
