Yo IBC:

I'm not familiar with your recording gear but I do have an RNC and it is a gem.

First, if you used a mic, did it need "Phantom Power?"

First time I tried my RNC I forgot to run my mic via phantom power and that, of course, will give you NO signal.

Keep the dials on the RNC straight up for starters; however, the last knob on the right is your gain -- move it to the right a bit and you should see the lights bounce. Try the super nice button -- pretty cool.

Green Hornet:D

ya.. i have phantom power for the mic... its jsut that... i dont knw how to use it as a hardware insert with PT..

How about an RNP???

Im looking to bypass the pre's in the Digi 001 into PT... Thanks

To use your RNC as an insert in PT, try this:

1) Plug 2 outs (for stereo) from the 002 into the RNC.

2) Pluig the outs of the RNC back into the 002 using the same numbered inputs. (eg. if you are using outs 7&8, use ins 7&8)

3) On the track you want to use the RNC, set up an insert set to "inerface -> 7 &8"

Voila, that track will be piped out to the RNC and brought back into PT just like the RNC is a plugin.

Be aware that there will be conciderable latency. You'll have to nudge the audio for that track back to account for it. Check the manual for how to do that and by how much.

Yes, this puts your audio through several extra A/D conversions- usually a Big No No in digital recording. However, at 24 bits, I've found that it still sounds fine- and the analog gear is usually worth it. The convertors in the 002 are really clean, as well, so its a good trade-off in my book.

Take care,
Chris

Oh- and it doesn't work live- its only for mixing. I think there is a way to make it work live, but I'm not sure what it is. You might check over at duc.digidesign.com for a TON more knowledgeable folks.

If you need it to work live, the easiest thing to do is hook it up to an external pre before running it into PT.

Take care,
Chris
