How Do I Use Midi With V-Drums?

I've hooked my Roland TD-8 V-Drum kit up to my PC, using a midi cable going from the 'out' of the drum module to the 'in' of my M-Audio Firewire which is connected to my PC.

I can get it to send a signal. I can get it to trigger sounds in Fruity Loops and when I choose to record from 'midi' in Acid Pro it picks up a signal, but when I come to play it back it doesnt play any sound (though the midi markings are there).

I don't know too much about midi, I've tried reading the v-drum manual but I'm still confused.

I think I need to set up whatever program I'm using to link sounds I want to midi markings. If you see what I mean :-/

So what I really want to do is to use the midi sounds that my v-drum kit uses, not trigger ones that are already on my computer. Do I have to send the kits from my drum kit to the computer? How would I do this?

If anyone has any idea what I'm talking and thinks they can lend a hand I'd be really greatful.

Thanks

To use the advantages of Midi and the sounds from your V-Drums you will have to do this:

1) MIDI OUT form V-Drum to MIDI IN into the sound card.

2) MIDI OUT from sound card to the MIDI IN of the V-Drums

3) Then you need to hook the analog outputs of the V-Drums to Analog inputs on your sound card.

MIDI only records performance. There is NO AUDIO in MIDI. The MIDI data from your performance will be recorded and you can edit it and it will trigger the sounds in the "brain" of your V-Drums. To hear it you will need to Monitor the Analog inputs that you pluged the V-drums into.
