How do I use insert on an ART MPA?

How do I run my HHB Fatman into the inserts of the ART Digital MPA?
There's the insert jack on the backs[L & R ]-which indicates both in & out[tip & ring]...this is what I dont understand: do I need a special cable to go "into"
the Fatman-like a Y jack?
The Fatman is a stereo L & R I/O.
I know how to do the conventional way-but I'd like to come out of the ART on the SPIDF[hoping for a cleaner signal].

You need an insert or Y cable.

... an insert jack for each channel if your pre is stereo.
