I current have a delta omni studio and the breakout box has two headphones which i use all the time when tracking. My question is:

Can i use headphones with the delta1010?

If i need an external headphone amplifier like the 4 channel behringer, is there a way i can leave the patchbay on the drivers set so it always monitors everything going in to the software?

Thanks,
Brandon

The patchbay on the 1010 only allows you to route the output of the monitor mixer to HW outs 1/2 and to the S/PDIF outs.

The monitor mixer is the one that, "always monitors everything going in to the software" when the appropriate mutes/vol levels are set to do so in the monitor mixer control panel.

Ok, so how might i create a headphone mix with this soundcard?

Advice from current 1010 users would be appreciated.

Brandon

The Delta 1010 was designed with a mixer in mind.

You run the outputs from the HW 1/2 back to 2 channels on the mixer and route it from there.

Or for a simpler setup, just run either of the HW 1/2 outs or S/PDIF outs to something with a headphone out.

Which is why you should have bought an Aardvark card. Sounds better and has a headphone jack. No mixer required.

hmmm

hmm, sounds a little ignorant there buddy. Thats completely subjective.

I haven't bought anything yet, but I appreciate the advice.

In terms of that price, is the 1010 the best card to buy considering the quality of the converters?

The fact that you'll see an awful lot of guys using Delta 1010s on this forum might be a hint that it's pretty popular. I'm not dissing any other cards, I've heard great things about Aardvark and MOTU and other cards as well ... just don't have 'em. You'll be happy with a 1010 ... or if you buy anything else in the Delta's price range, you'll probably be happy.
