How do I step record two tied whole notes

I just tried step recording for the first time. I have some drum loops that are two bar loops (slight variation in the second bar). However, it seems that you can only step record up to a whole note, which doesn't get the loops to trigger for the whole two bars.

Is there a way to step record a tie between the whole notes? I know I can enter this manually and quantize, but it would be nice to have that precision for note on - note off events like midi triggered loops.

Thanks for any help.

Open the piano roll view and using the select tool(the arrow cursor)drag the tail of the note to the required length.Use the grid as your guide.
If you don't think you're being accurate enough enlarge the grid with the plus/minus icons in the corners of the window.

Thanks for the reply.

After some fooling around with the step recorder, I found that if you reduce the "ticks per 1/4 note" resolution to around 48, you can just use number of ticks as a step measurement. For instance, a whole note would be 192 ticks, three tied whole notes (three bars) would be 476 ticks, etc.

Actually you don't have to reduce the resolution. I think the default is 960 ticks per whole note (240 per quarter note).

Also, if you right click on a note in Piano Roll View it brings up its properties. One of the properties is "duration." If you want exact accuracy, just type in the correct duration (i.e., 1:000 for a whole note, 3:000 for three bars).

Hi D-2tnr. I reduced the resolution only so I wouldn't have to type in huge numbers!

However, I'm not understanding how duration works. Will the duration setting override whatever the note value is? For instance, if I pencil in a quarter note, then set a duration of 3:000, will it send a "note on" event for 3 bars?

Sorry for my ignorance, but I never really used step recording or piano roll recording before.

Yes. If you change the duration, it will change the note value. If you draw in a quater note and change the duration to 1:000, it will become a whole note.
