How do I Split Stereo mp3's to mono tracks? (Vegas, SF5.0)

I'm collaborating with others trying to make music. While we are writing, we send around mp3's containing 2 tracks (one hard left the other hard right) to be used in multitracking.

I can make such mp3's in Vegas with ease. I can pull these tracks into Vegas with ease. So far, the only way to separate them (that I have found) is in Sound Forge, and it is like pulling teeth. For a 4 minute song, it'd take me forever to:

1. Load into SF
2. Save Left to mono
3. Save Right to mono

Am I just too damn impatient?? Is there a better way? (non Sonic foundry solutions will be accepted as well).

Think outside the box

Why not use mono .mp3 files and cut out the middle man?

Thank you, good Dr., but (in this case) it appears that the two Mono files are 5.0 MB and 4.8 MB, and the stereo file is 6.4 MB. As I do not have broadband access at home, I'm exploring ways to optimize.
