I have a Roland XV-88 and a 17" HP-ZD7000 laptop computer. I believe the sound card is Sound Blaster Pro. I am using a Midisport Uno to connect the two (USB-to-MIDI). Software is Cool Edit Pro 2.0. My Roland manual claims this is sufficient to begin recording onto my computer, yet nothing happens when I play on the Roland with Cool Edit Pro in record mode.

I heard that I may need to go from the headphones jack on the Roland to a line-in on my computer, however, I see no line in. My computer is a high end HP (2.66 GHz) and does have a 1/8" jack for headphones and 1/8" jack for mic. The soundcard is inside the machine so I dont know where the soundcard line-in jack or audio in jack would be. Would I have to open the machine?

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Christian

just because its high end does not mean it has a line in. Where I work we have a lot of high end laptops with out line in jacks. Also the the audio card in a laptop is integrated to the mother board unless its a PCMIA card. That can be an option for you. Is to get a PCMIA audio card or a firewire audio card or a usb audio card. These cards are also called audio interfaces. You can get these a local music store or online. dont use the mic jack as it is only mono and it will not sound good.
