I just burnt my first song onto a cd ,,how do i make it into an mp3?

Please help,,Thanx

All you need is the .wav file you want to make an MP3 from and an encoder.

If you didn't burn the disc from a computer, then you'll probably have to rip the .wav file from your CD track. Lots of the MP3 encoders will do that for you as well, some of them will go directly from CD track to MP3 without the intermediate step.

For a huge list of downloadable encoders try www.download.com and search for MP3 encoders. I use Audiocatalyst (around $20 US), and it does just about everything I need concerning ripping CDs and encoding MP3s. I'm sure other people here will recommend others that they have used, probably something even better. Try to stay away from BladeEnc, but otherwise pick ones that look good to you.

LAME is a free encoder that is pretty good (to my ears) at higher bit rates. It's command line based (run from a DOS box), so it isn't very user friendly. I've heard there are lots of drag-n-drop front-ends for it... I'll see if I can dig something up. You are using Win95/98/2000, right?

Blade is also free, but the quality is indeed poor.

Come to think of it, I think Rightclick has some Blade affiliation....but it's been good for me...very good replication plus it's free too......check all the free ones out...if nothing else you'll learn how it's done..a chimpanzee could do Rightclick, I guess that's why I like it....lol.....gibs

Shana,
I can't remember exactly the name of the one I use - I think it is SCMPX - or something similar??? I was put onto it by someone around these parts... maybe Slack or S8-N?? Anyway I found it works pretty good for me and it's free. I'll post the link later tonight - it's on my home computer...

I dont think you understand. I have no idea what to do here. I downloaded rightclick, I play my cds with winamp, great..Now what do I do. Where do .wav thingamabobs come in? I guess I;m the one chimp who cant figure it out :(

Hi Shana-
1. Get on the internet, type in "Xing Encoder" on any search engine
2. Find one that's free
3. Download it
4. Install it on your computer
Then it will wlak you through how to use it for the most part.
Xing is a great mp3 encoder, and I found a few sites where you can get a free version.

Any more help you might need, let us know, we're here to help!

If you already have the file in .WAV format, it's probably best to just process that instead of the CD. But I'm assuming from your post that you may have burned directly to a dedicated burner or something (no .WAV file available). What you need, in that case, is "CD Ripper" software. One of the easiest one's I've used is MusicMatch: www.musicmatch.com. That should get you started, at least.

I dont know what software you are using but I am curious to know how you got your music to CD without it first being a WAV. file...
If you mean that it was recorded in a pro studio and burned to CD there, then I understand...
To convert the CD track to a WAV. file you need audio editing software... Get your hands on N-Track or some other cheap software (assuming you dont have any) and start a new session. Most software will allow you to record from a CD in your computers CD-rom drive. If your software doesnt allow this, then just run a CD player into your soundcard with adapters from Radio Shack...
You will need to set the session up to record at 16 bit 44.1 khz...
Then use the mp3 encoder of your choice (I use SoloH) to convert the 16 bit 44.1 khz WAV. file to MP3... 128 kbs seems to be the industry standard sampling rate for MP3's at the moment... your encoder might ask you for that.
Hope this makes some sense.

Sorry about the lateness of my reply... I haven't been that well for the last few days and it slipped my mind... anyway, this is what I use... it's called SCMPX

It's extremely easy to use...

i just heard of a good joke..

how many men does it take to explain how to make an mp3 to a woman ?

about 50 of them !!

lets ask her though , why do you need to make an mp3 ? for what purpose? this way we avoid teaching you how to do something your not sure you even need to be doing..

but anyway..get your ass in the kitchen and make me some pie.. :) lol..

help

hey, i recorded a song on my mic on my computer...and i want to turn it into an mp3...PLEASE HELP!!! :)

If you've recorded into a PC with bog standard simple software type recorders or have ripped from a CD you should have wave files. BUY or find a share/freeware file converter & download it (usually contained with in a CD ripper) open it & select the file converter, drag the wave file into it, select the conversion format & quality, press convert & whammo!
Oh, do nominate where you want the MP3 file to reside after conversion.
I use Easy CD DA Extractor 5.0 - oldish but goodish.
Some of the multitrack software prog will convert to MP3 for you. cakewalk will mix & convert simultaneously - though it takes rather longer than mixing to a wave file.
Go rip (but remember the compression REALLY screws with quality)
Cheers

I'm confused. When song is on CD, isnt it a .cda file that you have to change to mp3? Thats what I do when I take off cd using software for it.
