how do I know?

I bought some backing track cds or mp3? I cant seem to tune to them to play guitar with them 1/2 step wont work and standard is off I know nothing about this stuff, whats the diff between cd recorded and mp3 recorded would tuning be affected?

Where did you get them, and why? Post up examples. There are few reasons why they might be off--the original sample rate may have been different from the one you've got them in, for instance: If I load pre-recorded tracks into Samplitude, Sam asks if I want to change the sample rate to the current rate I'm using or not. I say yes, because otherwise the speed will be off in relation to the exiting tracks. (I record and mix always in 48khz, but if I'm uploading somebody's mp3 backing tracks, those will invariably be at 44.1 kHz. So, I convert them.)

Let me get this straight. You can't tune by ear to something, do I have that right? Christ on a bike.
