How do I go about (lucy in the sky)...

getting the celeste like sound from the organ? im using the church organ patch on my key board and i know they used a stop box but the digital one im using just aint cutting; or perhaps im using it wrong. anybody have anymore insight on what i could do?
 
Are you talking about the beginning of Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds? It doesn't sound like an organ to me. Sounds more like a clavichord or harpsichord patch with an increased release time.

Oh, after having a listen I realized there actually is an organ sound during the chorus. Is this what you mean? It sounds like my Hammond VS-300 with the string sounds enabled.
 
Does your keyboard have a 'rock organ' patch on it? Try that one and double it with a strings patch.
 
it is an organ...i have the lewoshin recording session and the log book for that sessions says that they used an organ for the verse passages with a stop box and some other recording techniques and turned it off during the chorus...so thus the celeste thing in the verses and the barely audible organ in the choruses are one and the same. and i cant seem to mimic it.:(
 
Hey Beatleshead - welcome!

It was a Lowrey organ, not a Hammond. But I don't know which model or which setting is available to get that sound.

I do know that there are softsyths out there that emulate that sound. I would use google to see if there are any free ones that can do a Lowrey.

I've actually just finished recording a backing track for "Lucy..." for a friends' band. I used the "Fab Four" software which is THE EXACT sound ( Lowrey, as Fab4ever pointed out ). If I get through mixing and can still keep my eyes open tonight I'll post a snippet and let you guys know where to find it. ;)
 
Yes, it definitely was a Lowrey organ. I believe that sound is included in the Fab Four software from East/West (as is almost all of the Beatle sounds from EMI), but unfortunately you'd have to be willing to part with $350 or so. Probably doesn't help your cause.

Re the "Fab Four" having ALL the Beatle sounds...I'd advise anyone thinking about purchasing it to go through the list of included instruments VERY carefully!!

I was slightly disappointed that there was a lot of stuff that wasn't included. It's fantastic for drum samples etc. ( you get the kits from "help!", "TTR", What You're Doing" etc. ) but very limited in what else you get. Of course the "LSD" Lowrey, "SFF" Mellotron, "BYARM" Clavioline, "LM" Mrs Mills' piano are all AWESOME and there are some interesting things I've used to great effect eg WIYWOY Tabla.

What I'm trying to say is yes you get a lot of the more unusual sounds but not all the little obvious ones some may be chasing.
 
Sorry I didn't get a chance to upload that sample - I PROMISE to do it over the w/end. I've had my head buried in recording and mixing backing tracks for a friends' Beatles trib band.

Note: all instruments are on one channel and the click intro is on the other. The balance/mix is to my friends taste and needs as these will be used in auditorium situations mostly with an in-house sound guy.

Should also note that NONE of the sounds were taken from the "Fab Four" software we were speaking about.

I'm also always open to any critique anyone may have. :D
