I am a newb and I record just for fun on the side (into a USB mixer into my computer) and I have a lot of antares vocal plug ins (VST) installed on acid and it seems that I can only get the effects applied Post recording but cannot hear the effects 'live' as I record, how do I get this to work?

Do I need to switch software? I like acid because it is very easy and comfortable to me so I would prefer if I could get it to work on there so any help would be appreciated.

It'll never be "real" time - There's always going to be some measure of latency.

You need to create a headphone mix. That's all.

With acid though even with the effect applied, nothing happens and it is normal until after the recording... so its not even about a delay its just not applying the effect until post recording

That's generally how it works... With everything. Digital, analog or otherwise.

You make a headphone mix (also how it works with pretty much everything) and put whatever you want to the phones. It's not like you won't be able to hear it - You just need to make the phone mix and go. No, it won't record to the track like that (if for no other reason that you'd never want to anyway).
