I am new here and this is my first post. YAY. Okay, I am running a Digitech RP1 into a 4 channel Behringer UB802 into a 24bit SB ive card. I am also running a 5.1 speaker system. Is there an alternate way to hook my speakers up so that when I play or record through this that I can get the effect of the sound jumping left to right and back and forth ?? I get the effect when playing through the PC......it just comes through all speakers at one time. The SB setup will only produce sound when set to recording/listening as the Mic. I am assuming no matter how I set up my UB802 it is not my problem. Is the Mic only mono output so it will only produce sound through all speakers rather than the desired effect?? I am very new to recording and moreso through the PC. I bought this card the other day for this reason, that and the 5.1 ability. Can someone help me out by maybe suggesting a setup that will give me a "true" stereo sound on play and recording/playback?? It all seems so confusing.

you bought the soundblaster card for recording?

I bought to up the sound quality of my games and listening to mp3s or cds. It coincided with the whole recording idea. I am new and just figured the 24bit would offer more in both instances. Was I wrong in assuming this?? I really can't afford to pay tons more for the audigy card. I was also looking over my mixer to sound card setup and I think part of the problem is l/r output lines into a Y jack into the sound card......so I only really have one input.......how do I get true stereo out of the sound card?? Or is it possible with this card even?

First off, the Audigy only plays back at 24 bit. It records at 16 bit.

You should be using the line input of the card, not the mic input.

You will need a different adapter to get from the board to the soundcard. It will need to be 2 mono 1/4 to 1 stereo 1/8. Plug that in to the line input of the audigy.

The 5.1 won't do you any good with your recording. It will be cool to play back movies on the computer, but thats about it. In order to mix surround, you need a daw that will handle it. You also need a way of outputting certain channels to certain speakers. The audigy won't let you do that. Also, if you want to listen to your 5.1 mix that you just made, you will have to have it encoded. I don't think there is a stand-alone encoder that you can buy that won't be 50 times more expensive than the audigy card.

Cool thanks. Basically to enjoy recording in stereo then, I disconnect the speakers plugged into the line-in while recording then plug back in when listening? Out of the mixer I have my 2 mono cables into a 1/4 dual input Y stereo adapter into a 1/4 to 1/8 adapter stereo jack. I know it's a lot of connections, but it's what I have to use right now. Would that give me my stereo sound? Thanks for helping out and I am not overly worried about utilizing surround for recording or listening, but stereo would be nice.

Why do you have speakers plugged into the line in? The speakers should be plugged into the line out.

The connectors you are describing will give you stereo.

Sorry. My bad......after moving the tower to make room I looked at the card again, it has 3 outputs and 1 input. I have my current setup running into the input.......I get full sound from all speakers.....I just don't get the "bouncing" sound from left to right (with appropriate effect chosen of course) like I do when I run headphones right out of the Digitech FX board.......goes left ear to right ear and back and forth. I am wondering if this is possible with my setup on the PC to get this effect. I don't right now with the way I have it setup.......but again, I am so new to this that I am happy I get sound to come at all when I plug it all in......sorry for being so green.
