How do I get a nice slapback delay?

Hey all,

I just finished the lead vocal tracks for the song I am working on, and I am wondering if there are any hard and fast guidelines in setting up a good slapback delay for the vocals using an inserted digital delay patch. I'd want to be able to hear the slapback effect at the end of the vocal phrases within the mix, and I assume I need to do this with the tempo map (which is 128 bpm).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

thanks!

I like slapback at about 80-100 milliseconds. I wouldn't worry about the tempo for this effect, that is if you're going for a retro vibe... try rolling some top end off the delay if you're going after an old school echoplex kinda sound. There are some nice, free VST plugins for this... Try Voxengo's oldskoolverb maybe?
