When Quantegy made the “closure announcement” they gave a certain date that orders would have to be in (Feb 28) and claimed they would be producing tape into April to fill the orders. Perhaps they’re just a bit behind on filling the orders. They may have underestimated time, but still must fill the orders they are committed to.
Judging from the lack of play-by-play news as we had in the shutdown of ’05 apparently Quantegy CEO, Frank Foster plays golf with the editor of Opelika-Auburn News, or something. We may never know when the production machines stop for the last time, or what happens to them or the formulations, which could conceivably be passed along to someone else. In ’05 Opelika-Auburn were all over the tape story with regular updates. This time the paper’s silence gives them co-conspirator status with Quantegy.
So much for or free press… well I guess they are free not to focus on something to help cover a friend’s ass.
As to the question of whether Quantegy tape made in 2007 is any good... at this point I consider anything after mid 2005 to be questionable. The people that buy it will ultimately have to tell us how their particular batch is working out, but at this time I'm avoiding it because it’s too hit-or-miss.
Many things happened in secret after the reorganization, including a sudden decline in tape quality compared to the pre-1995 Quantegy. This along with poor management decisions lead to the end of Quantegy as a tape company.
And by the way... about the tape date

And next time I'll post the link to this post instead... see how many times one will eventually have to click to get the answer.

Oh well, I guess that's why we call this The Web.
