How do I expand to multi-track recording?

For my birthday, I was given an edirol FA 101 firewire audio capture device as an upgrade. I would love to be able to record multiple digital tracks at the same time, but I don't know what to do. Thanks

You just need to hook it up, and get some multi-track software (if you don't have one now). It looks like it only has two pre-amps, but you can have 8 more line ins.

Do you have a more specific question?

I was just thinking that there was a seperate piece of equipment that I had to hook into it to get the full potential out of all those lines. I thought it was something along the lines of a digital mixer or something. I just don't want to have to convert every XLR cable into 1/4" in order to use the rear inputs. I hope that makes some sense

Well ..... Yeah, you will need something else, unless you plan to run six line level devices into the rear inputs. The six rear inputs are line level (no pre-amplification). If you intend to connect 8 mics up to the unit you will need six more preamps (be them stand-alone or in the form of on-board pre's from a mixer). The Edirol only offers the two front inputs as preamped.
If you intend to use all 10 IN's then you will also need a device capable of SPDIF OUT such as an ART DPS II .

There would be no real need for a digital mixer (for multitracking) as the Edirol doesn't offer ADAT I/O or any of the other multi-channel digital I/O. SPDIF is about the extent of it's digital I/O and that's only two channels.

I need a macro for this Ethan Winer article .... Using a Mixer With a DAW ... I seem to be posting this link quite often.
None the less, it's good info.
