I am trying to email to a friend an mpeg file which is 5 megs. I have zipped it as well which reduced it by a tiny amount but it seems still too large to email. Has anyone got any ideas on how I can reduce the size even more so I can email it. Can I break it down into parts or something else?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

You won't be able to email large files.... most ISPs have a size restriction on email accounts...

You're best bet is to use a web-hosting ISP that provides download-space and let people download the files. Some of these hosting services are free, provided you allow banner ads on your download page....

But you can safely forget email -- as well, ZIP'ing compresses it pretty much as far as you can so there's not much else you can do to compress it further.......

True, most have a 1.5-2Mb size limit.

... but you can use WinZip or other utilities to "break up" the file into smaller chunks emailed separately that can be reassembled by the receiver by merely clicking on one of the pieces.

Getting a free webspace and then letting them download the file IS better, but remember that ANYONE could log on the page and download the file, so make sure that the download is not anything you wouldn't want the whole rest of the world to see.....
