I didn't know which forum to put this in, so I hope this is right.

I have a tune where the toms need to be big and open, but they're small and shut. :D

If worse comes to worse, I can re-track the whole tune, but I really only need to replace the toms. I didn't close mic them, but I can get a separate track of them by copying the overheads and cutting everything but the toms out.

Are there any free programs for drum replacement??? I'm sure this has been discussed a million times, I've just never needed to pay any attention to it.

Or, if I can send someone the tom track so that they can put it through a big fat tom sample, that would be awesome, too.

Thanx

Why not just go in there and do some tom overdubs? People do it all the time and it sounds surprisingly real depending on how you mix it

I believe that you can download a free trial of Drumagog and try it out. Although I think it has some pretty strict limitations.

Yeah, its a 14 day trial and you can only use the demo sounds, you can't import your own. IIRC you have 2 kicks and 2 snares to choose from, thats it.

Cool! Thanx, guys. I got the trial. It's very limited, but when you open the drop down list for the sounds, there's also a "BROWSE". I happen to have samples of all my own drums, so I'll see if I can trigger those.

There is a problem with the fact that I don't have individual tom tracks, since I'm just going to be cutting the toms out of a copy of the overheads. I'm playing 3 toms, but they'll all be triggering the same sample, since they're not on separate tracks.

So, I think I'll try what Lee suggested and just over-dub my now good sounding toms.

Thanx for the help.

Then why not run through the tracks, take (for example) the rack 1 hits and put them onto one track, the rack 2 hits and put them onto another track, and the floor hits and put them onto another separate track?

For any other song, it would be feasible. But, this tune has a jungle type beat being played on the toms. It would take hours to separate every hit. At that point, I'd re-track.:cool:
