Prettys Girls in yo
I have the Mackie Mix 8 and I want the singer to use its level controls to his/her liking without affecting what's being recorded. If I stick the mic into the sub mixer, any knobs turned will affect record levels so my thinking is:

mic > audio interface > Mix 8

Can anyone confirm?

Thanks - rev

Use an XLR splitter between the mic and the mixer. One side of the splitter goes into the mixer, the other goes into the interface. Feed the output of the interface to a stereo input on the mixer. It might make it inconvenient to use your studio monitors while tracking, though having monitors on in the room with the vocalist isn't such a great idea anyway.

One side of the splitter goes into the mixer, (so singer can play with controls and not affect the other side going to the interface)

Feed the output of the interface to a stereo input on the mixer. (so the singer can hear the rest of the music)

Sounds good to me. The splitter, is that a guitar store item?

Note that you'll need a second XLR cable. One from the mic to the splitter, one from the splitter to the interface.

Yeah, otherwise the singer would have to put the Mix 8 up his nose.

Thanks for your help!
