Ok So I have this secondhand mackie 1604 mixer. The thing is covered with dust and is pretty neglected. None of the nobs are scratchy but I think that its a little noisy, hums buzz ect. How should I clean it. Should I dismantle it and spray it with compressed air or is that certain death.

Those compact mixers are hard to service because everything is all on a circuit board. Apart from cleaining the pots with a good pot cleaner there isn't much you can do for them.

:) Use a vacuum cleaner hose with round duster to get off dust, Don't blast the thing with air because you can drive dirt/dust into/underneath the knobs/sliders.
Some of the scratchyness will go away when put into use again, the buzzing might be from dirt in/on the inputs/outputs, inserting a plug into them will clean alot of this off.

I use a regular wall painting brush (3" thick) to do the job and it works great. I have also attached one such brush in my cordless hand vaccum, so I can suck in the dust. Works well for me.
