how do i check sound card

Help , I hooked up turntable with proper pre amp and music plays fine thru speakers. But my recorder program cannot find source.
Also windows sound recorder does not locate source. New computer and sound card. win98se . Using line-in jack ..and NTI cd maker deluxe, also tried data becker cd recorder.

Hi Jack

Welcome to the board,

Double click your little speaker icon and then click options then Properties then Recording

Make sure the Line In is checked. Then click okay.

When the Recording window pops open, check the Line In. Its not mute like the playback. I made this mistake a while back.
