How do I adjust volume differences?

Hi everyone,

I made a recording (narrative) and had to take a break. When I resumed I recorded it at a higher volume. So now I have two different vocal volumes in the same recording. I have split them and adjusted the volume to a close approximation. However, it's not quite right so am wondering (and also for future reference) how I can give both parts the same volume so they match.

Any help most appreciated.

Thanks.

What software are you using. The technique you used (split/adjust) is correct, maybe you just need to zoom in a little more to adjust more closely?

If you didn't adjust any settings then it's louder because you spoke louder or sat closer to the microphone.
Both of these things will effect how the voice sounds even if you do manage to match the volumes well. Just a headsup. :)

+1^ You may need to incorporate some EQ to make up for added bass from being closer to the mic, or whatever sound difference you've run into. See if your software has a Spectrum Analyzer so you can get a visual of the differences...
