ok, i would like to add different tones to my sub basses. The only example I can think of is how different speakers and or speaker boxes add color to a sub bass. I played around with creating subs at different frequencies but it's not giving me the harmonics (if that's the right word) that i want. does anyone have any suggestions? I'm running a software based setup.

Thanks in advance

Well, the key to adding "presense" to subbass is to have another sound playing the same notes an octave or two higher. There are several ways to accomplish this. You can either layer a sound that's completely unrelated, in some cases you can make a copy of the same track and put it through distortion and HPF (to cleanup the lowend so it doesn't muddy things up and clash with the kick drum that normally sits above the subbas).
