i record my stuff: condensers to mixer to yamaha mt4x, multitrack, etc. now what? says i have to mixdown. do i need a new machine? how can i get these tracks to play like a normal tape, or better yet, how do i transform these tracks into one track on cd so that i might listen?

any help is appreciated.

Welcome aboard, orticjones!

I'm not familiar with the mt4x, but it has a mixer section, right? The manual that (hopefully) came with it should give you the basics of how to use it to create a mix- each machine is different so I couldn't tell you unless I had one to play with.

Then you'll need a computer with a CD burner and a stereo line input to record that mix on if you want to make a CD out of it. Do you have that?

Then you'll need the funky cable that goes from the 4-track to the computer. Usually is the stereo mini-plug to 2 RCA's. Radio Shack should have what you need.

That's all I can think of at the moment. I hope that was somewhat relevant to your situation...

Take care,
Chris

thanks for replying.
yes, mixer section. from the manual it appears i have to send some kind of stereo out to a cassette deck (how much for such a thing?) i have a computer with a burner, but the "stereo line input" confused me. the outs from the yamaha don't appear to be rcas.

Hey-

I just saw your other thread in "newbies" and posted there... much better place for this discussion.

See you back over there.. :)

Theyre probably quarter inch then. Look in your specs page in the manual and it should say what outs you have if you cant visually recognize them. Find out what ins you have on the comp. Go to an electronics or audio store and find a plug with one end that connects to your outs and the other that connects to your ins. The "stereo line input" im guessing is a 1/8"? youll prolly need an adapter for whatever cable you get for that. Dont fuck with a tape deck, use the burner on your comp. Tape will make your stuff sound bad

well, they were rcas, not sure what i was looking at. found a fisher cassette deck in the attic, have mixdown. thanks.
