How do get that old guitar sound

How do u get your guitar track to sound old like the guitar in the beggining of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here". Hope you understand what i mean.

You mean the thing where the acoustic guitar sounds like it's comin thru a 1940's or 1950's era portable phonograph with limited frequency range (hehe)? I'd start with a HPF and start rolling up till you get it, there's also a Valve plugin I have that would do it too...but most likely the EQ filter I mentioned and Isotope vinyl (if you need clicks) would do it I bet...

Am I thinking of the right thing ?
 
yep, or play it thru the crappiest speaker you can find. It wont sound exactly like it, but a little eq can change it.

That sound (like an old midwave radio) was made with the EQ of the mixing board I guess. I can do that just the same with my board that has a four band parametric EQ with vari Q and a hi pass filter that goes up to 500hz.

Cut all the highs and lows and boost a certain part of the mids. Works also for making a 'telephone' voice.
