How did I do with this classic song?

It's...... It's not good. I'm sorry.

However, you have plenty of potential. Try to sing it classically, and by that I mean, you're emphasizing the lyrics really strangely in the song. Sing it straight up. Don't try vibrato. Don't change your tone. Don't change projection too much. It sounds funny when you go to your falsetto. You're also going off pitch a lot starting at 2:50. But you're not going off pitch so much during the most of the song.

I'll give you examples of what I'm talking about.

Right off the bat, at 8 sec. you're singing softly. Not that it's bad to sing soft, but your sounding really weird, almost like you're forcing yourself to sing softly. You had a really weird tone and projection shift at 0:26-0:27 sec. That's what I'm talking about. Your singing sounds weird and forced there.

Like I said. Sing straight up. No tone shifts, no projection shifts, no weird articulation. Give it no soul. That's right, no soul. Give it soul later on, when you have worked out a decent sing.

I wish my desktop was working, so I could record you a sample of what I mean. I think my iPod mic will suffice for this. I'll try to get a recording in.

The keys and synth were excellent though, so there is no need to change that.

Okay so I quickly recorded an mp3 on my iPod. The quality is pretty bad and you should probably turn your speakers down a little bit.

You should sing it like this. Straight up. This song is actually a little out of my range so my voice was sounding a little weak on those high notes, but you get the idea of how it should be sung.

I think you have a nice sound to your voice, but I agree that you should try singing it the classic way so that you aren't making so many shifts from singing softly to projecting.

Firstly thank you for your comments CrowsofFritz. I had a listen to your memo recording too. I'm not convinced from that vocal attempt that you're singing it any better than I did it, sorry. With a song such as this, I think it's important to try to make it your own without changing the melody too much. Playing it straight doesn't thrill me.:) Merry Christmas!!

I don't sing this. I sing sisters of mercy, suzanne, last years man, famous blue raincoat, one of us cannot be wrong, chelsea hotel, stranger song....

but I don't sing hallelujah.

It almost doesn't matter how you sing it; You'll always be the guy who tried hallelujah, IMO.
That said, if you really want to do it, do it an octave lower like Leonard.

Thanks for your comments amk326. Doesn't Bono sing using whispers and falsetto then projection shifts? I thought they call that dynamics. :)

Hey so what if I 'm just another guy who tried hallelujah? Everyone seems to have had a go at it already lol..a cover is a cover! :)

I'm not telling you how it should be sung.

I'm trying to find a way to tackle the problems you are having. And I'm not really a great singer, I was only trying to show you what the straight-up style is.

I'm not saying that it's bad to use falsetto and projection shifts. Obviously, it's not, as you stated Bono does it. You're just not good at them right now. I was only trying to find a way how to get over those hurdles. Simple to more complex was my idea. But if you think there's a better way, that's fine.

uhhhh his version was better.

OK, just weird of you to tell him his is bad and tell him how he should do it and then be worse at it.

His is bad.

I didn't tell him how he should do it. I dedicated a post to that..... get it right.

Worse huh? I recorded a memo, crappy guitar, crappy mic, not great voice, don't know the song. "Uhh, his is better."

Yeah, no shit. Read my later post.

I dont think he's bad, and yes... yours is worse, and if you dont know the song.... then how can you tell him how to sing it?

Sorry bud, you over-jumped yourself on this one.

You're crazy if you don't think his is bad.

I never said mine was better.

I may not be able to sing, but I can tell why it's bad. Did you even read my posts, or are you just trolling?
