I'm about to go for the Kurzweil Rumour and I'm having 2nd thoughts and was considering going a step up with the Mytek. I'm not sure if it's worth the extra money being I'm on a budget and the Rumour gives me A/D and D/A, not simutaneouly I know, but I don't need that.

Back on track: why is there no info on Mytek on any of these forums here? Are you guys getting better results with lower end stuff or is Mytek too pro for us, being we are the home recording forums?

Most people here probably aren't using standalone converters, as well as can't justify the purchase. You can't really go wrong with Mytek though, and if it fits your budget, I don't think you will ever regret it.

Well, I use a standalone convertor - I use a Lucid. Mytek is not as well known as Lucind and Apogee, and when people think boutique, I think the think of Lavry and so forth. I know Mytek hasn't been on my map, and I really don't know anything about them.

I got some old school 8 channel 20 bit benchmark D/A which I guarantee will kick the ass of any of the new prosumer cards

Anyway

With the Mytek you get 96K capabilities if you plan to record @ that rate or plan on importing projects that might be at that rate you gotta go with the mytek FYI you'd have to buy A/D and D/A separtely which is about 2K new

With teh rumour you get a great reverb unit. So if you need reverb and don't need 96K thats a no brainer.

The difference in conversion is probably not that great(never heard either so take that with a grain of salt)

If you go with the mytek may I suggest the Benchmark DAC-1 as your D/A has more features then the mytek D/A and sounds just as good if not better from other peoples accounts.

I'm more than likelt goinf with the no brainer Rumour due to $$$ and I don't need 96k, I'm a 44.1er all the way. I'm hoping the Rumour is a simple move to go from A/D to D/A. I'm just more than curious why there was not one post on the Myteks anywhere here. From oher forums I gather they are great but for my needs probably overkill. I wonder why Kurzweil doesn't release a converter box!

Because most peoples setup cost as much as a 2 channel A/D/A set of Myteks. Answer your question? :D

Not to mention this is a "SUPER boutique shop" I think it only has 2 employees Mike and someone else and I don't think the other guy is the marketing department...

That's pretty funny. I guess you're right. I still find it strange that they were never discussed in this entire forum. Must be a bunch of poor people like me here! ;)

Wow, I have never heard ANYONE say that the Benchmark converters sound better than the Myteks. The Benchmark converters are very nice, especially for the price. Mytek in the past has only made some really spendy stuff. They are very high end ala Prism, Cranesong, Lavry etc... Lavry also has recently released some "more affordable" converters. Personally, like I said earlier, if it fits your budget, it won't be something you will regret. However, unless the rest of your signal chain is already slammin, than the money saved getting something more affordable may go a lot farther for your overall sound than just a really nice set of converters.
