Hey everybody, I'm new here... I've been following this site for a couple of months but never really had a question to ask until now. I have Yamaha NS-10 monitors(which I believe aren't magnetically shielded?) My question is, how far away should I keep my computer monitor from them? Thanks for your help!!!

NS-10s??? (Don't get me started...) ;)

Anyways... the short 'n sweet answer is - as close as you can before the colors on your (computer) monitor distort... probably minimum 6-12 inches...

what does this sound like then ?

well this is interesting , im using the alesis monitor ones and occasionally my monitor loses a colour for a few mins then goes back to normal.. I always thought my monitor was on the way out , but maybe its a studio monitor issue.. They sit about a foot and a half to each side of the computer monitor .. although i use to have them set up behind me in a different room , they were much further away than they are now and the problem still was there .. its not that bad when it does happen cos i know it goes away , but ill be pissed the day it doesnt go away .. well cheers all..

Spider...

Sounds like your monitors (computer) *are* on the way out... the only effect nearfields have on monitors is distortion of the colors... you'll see green magentic field "wave" patterns as the nearfield is placed closer....

Now you have an excuse to buy that 21" monitor!!!

A magnetized picture tube will show discoloration *all* the time, not intermittently as Spider described.... but hey, ya never know till ya try!!! :)
