Hello kind folks!

I'm pretty new to recording and I'm looking for some advice on a song I've started recording with my band.

I would really appreciate any help/advice/tips I can get to make it sound better.

I've attached the file to this post View attachment Tomorrow_128.mp3.

It has lead/rythm guitars and some drums on it. No bass.

We are using Reaper and we used a PRS Custom 24 SE routed through a Line 6 UX 2 POD Farm. I have an SM57 mic(not used in the recording attached) and that's about it. We're on a tight budget.

Please help!

Thanks!
Pulkit

Seems like you are recording guitars too hot, there is some distortion in the beginning (clean guitar).
Try to record your guitars with real amp and sm57 instead.
Around 1.34 the guitar seems to be out of tune slightly?

I sounds like digital distortion so turn down the Gain knob on POD (watch the CLIP lights on your interface and make sure that they will neverever light up - it's better to record at low levels).
Try experimenting with the Mustang amp and the mic. The amp doesn't have to be big to get huge sounds out of it ;) Do a little reading how to mic an amp.

I like it. Sounds kinda like an instrumental Red Hot Chili Peppers. Turn the gain down a little on those distorted tracks. Sounds a little too scooped, as I found myself wanting more body out of the distorted guitars. Something that compliments that nice clean sound you have :thumbs up:

Oh crap! I just noticed: No bass! that's why it sounds kinda thin. Once you put a nice punchy bass on that bad boy, it'll open up really nicely.

Yeah...it does.

One of the guitars is out if tune.....

I like it too. I think the flavor of the guitars kinda bounces around....between Alt Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, etc....like you pulled out all the stomp boxes and gave them each a whirl. :D
I mean, it's not bad....just making the observation.

Will you be adding vocals to it?

Thanks for the replies guys!
Yes we would be adding vocals and bass soon.
Apart from the 1.34 mark, do you hear any other points where guitars seem out of tune? I guess I'm not able to hear it because I've gotten used to the de-tuned recording.

Hi there,

Pretty good recording - nice stereo sound! The timing seems out in places. You can edit this in a DAW and correct it - makes a difference.

Rock on!

Jonathan
